About Me
My name is Nola Flynn and I have been the School Nurse at Luverne for 4 years. I am a proud alumnus of the LHS Class of 1999. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Troy University School of Nursing in 2003. After working in Labor and Delivery for 14.5 years, I was blessed to be able to become the School Nurse here in December of 2017. I am married to Brock Flynn and we have two children, Sawyer and Riley, who attend Luverne School.

Medication Policy
- All medication, prescription or over the counter, must be accompanied by a “School Medicine Prescriber/Parent Authorization” (PPA) form, with parent/guardian’s signature. Prescription medications will also require a physician’s signature. Medications will only be administered at school at the specified times noted on the form. Any changes in dose, time or medication will require a new form, and a new container with the corrected pharmacy label. Medications will not be administered without a completed PPA form. This form may be obtained from your doctor’s office, the school nurse or printed from the school website.
- Over-the-counter medications are NOT provided by the school. If desired to be given during school hours, you must supply these medications in the original, sealed container with the original label and the child's name. Specific instructions must be given as to when and why the medicine is necessary. Students under twelve (12) years old must have appropriate medications for children (for example Children’s Tylenol).
- Asthma inhalers, Epi-Pens, and medications approved for self-administration may be carried on the student's person only if indicated on the PPA form. These medications should be checked in with the nurse and all appropriate paperwork must be completed.
- Medications must be turned in to the school nurse to be counted and recorded. Medications should not be brought to school by students.
- Medication forms must be renewed every year.
- The regulations governing medication administration at Luverne School are in accordance with those of the Alabama Department of Education and Alabama Board of Nursing.

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
- New loss of taste or smell
- Fever (100.4) or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19. Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis. Please screen your child every morning for these possible COVID-19 symptoms. If your child has symptoms they should not go to school.
If your child exhibits symptoms of possible COVID-19 at school, he/she will be isolated and should be picked up immediately. You should follow up with your child’s healthcare provider for further evaluation. Students with a diagnosis other than COVID-19 (such as strep or norovirus) may return to school per their doctor’s instructions. Students sent home with possible COVID-19 symptoms who are tested for COVID-19 and those who do not seek medical evaluation should remain at home for 10 days after symptoms start AND be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication AND symptoms have improved before returning to school.
Please use these guidelines for other illnesses:
Pink eye or crusty, inflamed eyes: student may return to school 24 hours after starting treatment.
Rashes: stay at home until the doctor says student may return.
Head lice: if your child has live bugs, he/she will not be allowed to remain in school. The student must be treated and have nits removed. You must make sure all nits are removed to prevent re-infestation.
Keeping hands clean is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. Please encourage good hand washing habits with your child.
